Amazon Data Released

Submitted by ORNL DAAC Staff on

The ORNL DAAC announces the release of 19 spatial data sets associated with the Large-Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA). The data sets encompass the area 10° N to 25° S and 30° to 85° W.

Seventeen new releases are regional subsets of global map data sets previously published by the ORNL DAAC or others. The subsets pertain to land cover, vegetation, climate, wetlands, soils, and hydrographic information.

Two data sets contain map data pertaining to legal and geographical boundaries in Amazonia.

LBA is an international research initiative under the leadership of Brazil. The project focuses on the climatological, ecological, biogeochemical, and hydrological functions of Amazonia; the impact of land use change on these functions; and the interactions between Amazonia and the Earth system.

See the LBA project page for further information about the study and to access associated data and documentation maintained by the ORNL DAAC.
