CENTURY Model Product Available

Submitted by ORNL DAAC Staff on

The ORNL DAAC announces the availability of a new model product.

The model product "CENTURY: Modeling Ecosystem Responses to Climate Change, Version 4 (VEMAP 1995)" is a general model of plant-soil nutrient cycling that is being used to simulate carbon and nutrient dynamics for different types of ecosystems including grasslands, agricultural lands, forests and savannas. CENTURY is composed of a soil organic matter/decomposition submodel, a water budget model, a grassland/crop submodel, a forest production submodel, and management and events scheduling functions.

Century Model Version 4.0 contains a specialized gridded structure that was designed and used for VEMAP simulations.

The CENTURY Model Version 4.0 embodied the best understanding to date of the biogeochemistry of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and sulfur. The primary purpose of the model was to provide a tool for ecosystem analysis, to test the consistency of data, and to evaluate the effects of changes in management and climate on ecosystems.
