LBA Radiance Data Available

Submitted by ORNL DAAC Staff on

The ORNL DAAC announces the release of a data set associated with the LBA-ECO component of the Large-Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA).

The data set "LBA-ECO CD-07 GOES-8 L1 Radiance Data for Amazonia: 1998-2001" contains GOES-8 imager data collected over the LBA-ECO study region as part of an effort to characterize the incoming radiation and precipitation rates at regional scales. This data set contains data from all five imager channels at half-hourly or 3-hourly temporal resolution and 8-km/30-min spatial resolutions. The data cover the time period of March 1998 to February 2001. Please see the convenient subsetting tool provided in the ORNL DAAC Search and Order system for selecting data files based on band, time frame, and image quality values.

LBA is an international research initiative under the leadership of Brazil. The project focuses on the climatological, ecological, biogeochemical, and hydrological functions of Amazonia; the impact of land use change on these functions; and the interactions between Amazonia and the Earth system. The LBA-ECO component focuses on the question: "How do tropical forest conversion, regrowth, and selective logging influence carbon storage, nutrient dynamics, trace gas fluxes, and the prospect for sustainable land use in Amazonia?"

See the LBA project page for further information about the study and to access associated data and documentation maintained by the ORNL DAAC.
