Model Products and NPP and Vegetation Data Released

Submitted by ORNL DAAC Staff on

The ORNL DAAC announces the availability of four new products.

The model products "PnET Models: Carbon, Nitrogen, Water Dynamics in Forest Ecosystems (Vers. 4 and 5)" and "PnET-BGC: Modeling Biogeochemical Processes (Gbondo-Tugbawa et. al 2001)" are from the PnET (Photosynthetic/EvapoTranspiration) collection, a series of nested models of carbon, water, and nitrogen dynamics in forest ecosystems. These models can be used to predict transient responses in net primary production (NPP), carbon and water balances, net nitrogen (N) mineralization, nitrification, and N leaching resulting from changes in climate, N deposition, tropospheric ozone and land use as well as variation in species composition.

The data sets "Leaf Area Index Maps at 30-m Resolution, Selected Sites, Canada" and "Walker Branch Watershed Vegetation Inventory, 1967-1997" consist, respectively, of local LAI maps for selected measured sites in Canada and the results of field surveys to quantify the standing crop of vegetation through time including measures of tree/plant size distribution, species composition, and above-ground biomass at Walker Branch Watershed, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

For further information about these data sets, please visit our Model Archive, NPP, and Vegetation Collections web pages.
