MODIS Land Products C5

Submitted by ORNL DAAC Staff on

The ORNL DAAC announces two tools for subsetting land products from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensors onboard the Terra and Aqua satellites.

The first tool allows users to obtain MODIS land products for 1,052 selected sites worldwide in ASCII format (7 x 7 km) and in GeoTIFF format (25 x 25 km). To access this tool see http://daac.ornl.gov/modisfixedsite.

The global subsetting tool creates MODIS land product subsets for user-selected areas worldwide from one pixel up to 201 x 201 km area and for a user-selected time period during the MODIS record. To access this tool, please see http://daac.ornl.gov/modisglobal.

Both tools subset the following MODIS Land Products:

  • Normalized Difference Vegetation Index and Enhanced Vegetation Index (NDVI/EVI)
  • Leaf Area Index and Fraction of Photosynthetically Absorbed Radiation (LAI/fPAR)
  • BRDF Albedo Model
  • BRDF-calculated albedo
  • BRDF-adjusted Nadir Reflectance
  • Gross Primary Productivity (GPP)
  • Net Primary Productivity (NPP)
  • Land Surface Temperature and Emissivity and
  • Surface Reflectance.

Both tools provide time-series plots, ASCII files of the pixel values along with quality information, average and standard deviations for the area selected, and files that can be imported directly into GIS software.

Further details about the ORNL DAAC MODIS project can be found at http://daac.ornl.gov/MODIS/modis.html .

The ORNL DAAC is a NASA-funded data center archiving and distributing terrestrial ecology and biogeochemical dynamics data.
