Second CD-ROM for Southern Africa

Submitted by ORNL DAAC Staff on

The ORNL DAAC announces that the second CD-ROM volume prepared for the Southern African Regional Science Initiative (“SAFARI 2000”) is now available to the public.

“SAFARI 2000 CD-ROM Series: Vol. 2” is a 5-disk set containing meteorological, fire, aerosol, atmospheric chemistry, and precipitation data, as well as a large collection of Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) images taken aboard the Terra satellite.

The volume focuses primarily on the 2000 dry season—August and September—in the southern African region, defined as latitude 5° N to 35° S and longitude 5° W to 60° E.

This CD-ROM was previously restricted to registered SAFARI 2000 participants.

The SAFARI 2000 project was conducted during 1999-2001 to develop a better understanding of the earth-atmosphere-human system in southern Africa.

Visit our SAFARI 2000 page to learn more about the project and to access associated data maintained by the ORNL DAAC.
