Three data sets from the Southern African Regional Science Initiative (known as "SAFARI 2000") are now accessible from the ORNL DAAC Web site.
- "SAFARI 2000 Monthly Climatology for the 20th Century (New et al.)" includes precipitation, mean temperature, diurnal temperature range, wet-day frequency, vapor pressure, cloud cover, and ground-frost frequency. The data are gridded at 0.5-degree latitude/longitude resolution.
- "SAFARI 2000 SeaWiFS Images for Core Study Sites, 2000-2001" contains selected Sea-Viewing Wide Field-of-View Sensor (SeaWiFS) imagery for eight core study sites at 1.1-km resolution. The data files are in HDF format.
- "SAFARI 2000 SeaWiFS Images for Southern African Region, 1999-2001" contains Level-1a swaths at 4.5-km resolution. The data files are in HDF format.
SAFARI 2000 was conducted during 1999-2001 to develop a better understanding of the earth-atmosphere-human system in southern Africa.
