Matthews Global Wetlands

The ORNL DAAC has recently made additional hydroclimatology data available. Please return to our main page and search under Data Available for the data of interest.

System Upgrade

UPGRADE - On Monday, March 8, 1999, the ORNL DAAC operational system will be unavailable because of a system upgrade. We expect to be operational again by late Monday afternoon. Please check this hotnews again for updates. If you need data before we are operational again, please call our User Services Office at 423-241-3952 or e-mail us at ornldaac@ornl.gov.

VEMAP

VEMAP-1 Database - The Vegetation/Ecosystem Modeling and Analysis Project (VEMAP) is an ongoing multiinstitutional, international effort addressing the response of biogeography and biogeochemistry to environmental variability in climate and other drivers in both space and time domains. The objectives of VEMAP are the intercomparison of biogeochemistry models and vegetationtype distribution models (biogeography models) and determination of their sensitivity to changing climate, elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations, and other sources of altered forcing.

NPP 19

Another 18 study sites, plus a worldwide data set, have been added to the global terrestrial Net Primary Production (NPP) reference database. The NPP database has been compiled by Dick Olson and Jonathan Scurlock under the auspices of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme, with funding from the Terrestrial Ecology Program of NASA's Office of Earth Science.

RIVDIS

A Global River discharge dataset, which contains monthly averaged discharge measurements for 1018 stations located throughout the world, is now available from the ORNL DAAC. The data were originally compiled by C. J. Vorosmarty and B.M. Fekete at the University of New Hampshire from published UNESCO archives for river discharge and published as RivDIS v 1.0. The updated RivDIS data (RivDIS v1.1) are useful in a variety of earth systems science and water resource planning applications.
