More Southern African Data

The ORNL DAAC announces the release of fifteen southern African data sets for the Southern African Regional Science Initiative (SAFARI 2000). These data sets, originally prepared in coordination with data investigators by the SAFARI 2000 Data Group at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, contain the results of fire-related measurements including field and laboratory measurements of burning biomass emissions, pre- and post-burning site and ash reflectance, estimates of regional fuel load and emissions, and historical fire occurrence.

Nitrogen Deposition Data

This data set, prepared by Elizabeth Holland and colleagues, contains data for wet and dry nitrogen-species deposition for the United States and Western Europe. Deposition data were acquired directly from monitoring programs in the United States and Europe for time periods from 1978-1994 for wet deposition and from 1989-1994 for dry deposition and evaluated using similar quality assurance criteria to ensure comparability. A standard geostatistical method (kriging) was used to interpolate data onto a 0.5 x 0.5 degree resolution map for wet and dry deposition.

VEMAP-1 Model Results Available

The ORNL DAAC announces the release of a new data set from the Vegetation/Ecosystem Modeling and Analysis Project (VEMAP).

Selected variable output results from the VEMAP Phase I modeling exercise are now available for several combinations of biogeochemistry and biogeography models and climate change scenarios.

Revision Summary:

New S2K Data Sets Released

The ORNL DAAC announces the release of eleven southern African data sets for the Southern African Regional Science Initiative (SAFARI 2000). These data sets, originally prepared in coordination with data investigators by the SAFARI 2000 Data Group at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, contain meteorological, aerosol, atmospheric chemistry, and fire emissions data, as well as supporting maps and aerial photography.

New Tabbed Interface for Mercury

The ORNL DAAC announces the release of a new user interface for the Mercury Search System (http://mercury.ornl.gov/ornldaac/). This new "tabbed" interface features cleaner, shorter pages and makes navigation easier. It also includes a "What's New" link under the "Browse" tab. The "What's New" feature informs users of the availability of new data sets.

SAFARI 2000 Data Sets Released

The ORNL DAAC announces the release of thirteen new Southern African data sets. Originally offered on the second CD-ROM volume prepared for the Southern African Regional Science Initiative (SAFARI 2000) by the Goddard Space Flight Center, these data sets contain meteorological, aerosol, atmospheric chemistry, and precipitation data.

In addition, this data release includes a new data set that compares Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection (ASTER) and Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) fire data from the dry season 2001.

Revised -- NPP EMDI Data
