NASA's Earth Science datasets are used by scientists like Dr. Kevin Schaefer, a Research Scientist with the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado, to detect climate-induced thawing of permafrost throughout the Arctic. Dr. Schaefer's research has pioneered the use of remote sensing techniques to provide critical data needed for understanding environmental change in the Arctic.

Since 2009, Dr. Schaefer has published more than 16 ORNL DAAC datasets and models (and counting) from five different NASA funded field campaigns.
