NASA's Earth Science datasets are used by scientists like Dr. Kyla Dahlin of Michigan State University in terrestrial ecology, ecogeography (the intersection of ecology and geography), biology, environmental management, and Earth system modelling.

Dr. Dahlin' research aims to determine whether terrestrial vegetation will store more carbon (i.e., be a carbon sink) in the future or release it back into the atmosphere (i.e., be a carbon source), using forecasts from ecosystem models.

Data from NASA’s ORNL DAAC help Dr. Kyla Dahlin better understand how remote sensing can improve predictive ecological models. To learn more see the NASA Earthdata User Profile: Dr. Kyla Dahlin .
