The Land Processes DAAC distributes NASA Earth Observing System data. They developed the AppEEARS tool to provide access to a wide range of data from instruments including MODIS, VIIRS, SMAP, and now Daymet.

Working in partnership with the Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC), we are happy to announce that the Daymet Daily Surface Weather Data on a 1-km Grid for North America, Version 3 product is now available in Version 2.20 of the Application for Extracting and Exploring Analysis Ready Samples (AppEEARS).

The LP DAAC operates as a partnership between the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and, like the ORNL DAAC, it is a custodian of NASA’s Earth Observing System data. AppEEARS provides access to a wide range of environmental variables derived from sources such as MODIS onboard the Terra and Aqua satellites, the Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) mission, as well as population information from the Gridded Population of the World (GPW) Version 4 collection.

Daymet Version 3 provides estimates of daily weather parameters for Canada, Mexico, the United States of America, and Puerto Rico from 1980 through 2018. Output variables include minimum air temperature, maximum air temperature, precipitation, shortwave radiation, water vapor pressure, snow water equivalent, and day length. For more information about Daymet data, please visit the Daymet site at https://daymet.ornl.gov/.
