Delta-X is a 5-year NASA Earth Venture Suborbital-3 mission to study the subsidence and growth of the Mississippi River Delta in the United States.

The NASA Earthdata Website recently published an article, Disappearing Deltas: The Delta-X Airborne Mission Investigates, that highlights the airborne aspects of the Delta-X Mission, with flights that began last month.

Take a look and learn why this mission is so important in understanding coastal land subsidence and sea level rise. The Mississippi Delta is an interesting study area where both growth and sinking are occurring. Animations that illustrate the time series display of satellite images are provided to exemplify growth of the Wax Lake Outlet and Atchafalaya River Deltas as well as model output simulations showing particle flow from the Wax Lake Delta.
