ORNL DAAC MODIS Team receives NSDI Champion of the Year Award

The DAAC MODIS tools deliver subsets of data from NASA's MODIS instrument over defined spatial and temporal extents, and the tools are used by thousands of users worldwide to access MODIS data.

On September 29th, 2016, the ORNL Distributed Active Archive Center MODIS team was awarded the Federal Geographic Data Committee Doug D. Nebert National Spatial Data Infrastructure Champion of the Year award in Washington, D.C.

Attendees at the ceremony included, Ivan DeLoatch, executive director of the Federal Geographic Data Committee Secretariat (FGDC), Robert Cook, ORNL DAAC chief scientist (retired), Makhan Virdi, ORNL DAAC MODIS tool lead, Suresh Vannan, ORNL DAAC Manager, Camille Touton, Dept. of Interior, FGDC Chair, and Kevin Gallagher, USGS, associate director for core science systems.
